Not all fans of the only artist with 7 successive multi-platinum albums, have held her close to their hearts after her seven years hiatus from the music industry.
Funny how one can rapidly browse through social networks and gauge raw reactions to assorted events.
Here’s what 301 NPR fans on Facebook had to say of a September 1st post about Whitney Houston being back with a new CD – let’s not forget the 542 (or 67% of this none statically significant 843 sample) hurried other NPR fans elected to be silent followers by quickly clicking the ‘I like it’ button :
The majority of 301 vocal NPR fans who posted a comment on Facebook were negative both about the event and the fact that NPR would even talk aboutit. Reactions to the announce of her new CD ranged between good lucks and welcome backs, unexcited’who cares’ or ‘Whitney who?’ to downright hatefulness.
Many comments justified their negativity as tied to drugs abuse. Many were surprised that NPR would label them as’rumors’. The less than flattering 80′s hairdo on the picture picked by NPR surely failed to help and attracted even more negative comments.
Many had not heard yet her new CD and despite pleas from some to wait before judging, called her voice ‘raspy, crackly, destroyed by drugs’ and supporting their comments, arguing she had’wasted, butchered it’ or hoping she would’use it more wisely’ for the fence-sitters. While her still fans, called her voice as’luminous, great, incredible’ and her talent as definite.
Many did offer wishes of good luck with her new CD, with her now resolved ‘rumored’ drug addiction, for her to’stay strong’ and keep away from’Bobbayyyy…’.
Not countering, and beyond the company music muscle, thanks to plenty of reminiscing romantics, her album ranks as of this writing two on the billboard charts.
At the end of the day, at 46 and with over 170 million combined album, singles and videos sold worldwide behind her, she does still look like a’Million dollar Bill’ appears to have’Nothin’ but love’ for her fans but don’t hold your breath for her to’Call You Tonight’ though. Her new CD, “Look To You” may not be her best ever but she does manage to convey some sort of’Like I never left’ feeling. For anyone who welcomes her comeback and knows roughly where she has been will actually relate to her asserting ‘I didn’t know my strength’ and may agree that the one, Rolling Stone magazine once called’a national treasure is ‘Worth it’.
‘Salute’ to you Whitney! And good luck. Thank you for the memories revival.
