The R4 DS card opens a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to playing games.  A whole slew of new, never before seen games, available for you to quickly and easily download.  And best of all?  They are all released absolutely free by the programmers that made them.  Nintendo DS homebrew really became popular with the release of the r4 Card for the DS and now the DSi console.  A large number of homebrew games are old classic games, improved and updated to take advantage of todays powerful hand helds.   Developer, programmed and created by dedicated homebrew game programmers just for the sheer love of making games.  All you need your your Nintendo DS or DSi and your R4 Card in order to be able to load the games and enjoy them absolutely free.

One of my favorite R4 Card games is the very popular Lemmings DS.  Created by an R4 Card owner and amateur programmer.  The quality of this game is easily at par with many of the commerically released games for the DS and DSi.  And that’s what makes it so amazing.  It is because these homebrew games are of such high quality that people are flocking to the R4 Card and taking advantage of what it has to offer in terms of homebrew gaming and also, developing your own Nintendo DS homebrew games.

Lemmings originally was released as a computer game.  First for the Amiga 500 and then later it was ported over to the commodore 64 as well as the PC.  Truly one of the best old school classic action / strategy / puzzle game to come along at that time.  So popular in fact that it was also release for the Super Nintendo too.  And now – thanks to the hard work and devotion of of some amateur game programmers, you can enjoy it on your Nintendo DS or DSi with an R4 Card.

In Lemmings, your job is to save these helpless and hopeless Lemmings by taking them from their cave or cavern and getting them to the exit.  This is done by way of digging, blowing things up, climbing, and building bridges.  There are loads of tools at your disposal, and in some extremely funny cases, you may have to sacrifice a Lemming or two as you try to dig or climb your way to the exit on the screen.

It’s a fun and funny game.  With some of the antics of the Lemmings – all of them that you put them up to – making you laugh out loud.  The game is a mix between puzzle game – action game, and strategy game, because you have to plan exactly how you’ll get past the barries to get your lemmings to the exit – and keeping enough of them alive and well to ensure that you progress to the next level.

Each level gets progressively harder, with more Lemmings having to be saved in order to clear a certain level.  While some of the Lemmings are expendable, most of your Lemmings have to make it out safely – and alive, in order for you to progress to the next stage, which then gets harder to complete.

The R4 Card version of Lemmings for the DS contains all of the original levels from the very first installment of the game, as well as the levels from Christmas Lemmings and Oh NO! More Lemmings too.  Thanks to the R4 Card you can have all of these levels in one easy to play game.

Getting a Nintendo Wii mod chip will give your Nintendo Wii a new lease of life. If your unsure what a mod chip actually does, it allows you to load new software onto your Nintendo Wii to extend its functionality.

You will be able to play any copied games you have and any you have downloaded online via BitTorrent for example, but the mod chip gives you so much more than that. For example, there are a range of console emulators available to download free which will allow you play classic games from your favourite console of the past including the Sega Megadrive, Super Nintendo and Sony Playstation 1.

Soft Chip – A soft chip costs around $30, and does everything a mod chip will do. Unlike a mod chip, the soft chip is a programme you just load onto your Nintendo Wii. The soft chip has some big benefits over the traditional hardware mod, its nearly half the price and can be installed in less than 20 minutes by anyone

I have been using the soft chip for a few months now, and am more than happy with it. A step by step video tutorial is included if you get stuck, but the installation process is fully automated so you should have any issues. If for any reason you needed your Nintendo Wii repaired under warranty, you can simply uninstall the soft chip.

Forget Nintendo Wii mod chips, the soft chip is what you need.

I would strongly recommend the HomeBreWare Soft Chip, compatible with all Wii’s, it is cheaper than a game and their support is fantastic!
